Naughty rabbits….

The green snow fencing is doing a good job at keeping the deer out of the bird garden and as I expected, the rabbits have chewed holes in it to get to the fallen birdseed and unfortunately, my Serviceberry.  I ended up having to put hardware cloth around the bottom of the Serviceberry to keep the bunnies from further destroying the tree.  I realize that they need to eat too but that doesn’t give them free rein of my trees and shrubbery.

Here’s one of the many culprits, at least he wasn’t in the bird garden but munching on my plants in my flower garden.  I had let the little dog out and she walked within 5 feet of this rabbit and it didn’t phase it one bit.  I think they are a little too secure in their existence around Whitetail Acres.  As you can see, it doesn’t look like it’s starving to death, either; I assure you, they are eating VERY well!

It’s been bitterly cold in mid-Michigan the last week and a half and this morning wasn’t an exception.  The feeders have been busy, I’m having to fill them once a day.  This is just a sampling of the critters cleaning up what had been tossed on the ground around one of the feeding stations.

I do have the Bird Photobooth out today and have it taking video of the visitors.  So far, I’ve seen a male House Finch checking it out.

Breakfast anyone?
