Monday’s birding adventure

I had Monday off due to the MLK holiday so we decided to go on another snowy owl adventure to Gratiot County.  It wasn’t a successful day for owls but I did get the opportunity to photograph an American Kestrel, a bird that I had only really learned about last year when I visited the Howell Nature Center.  The Kestrel is the smallest and most common falcon, ranging in size from a Blue Jay to Mourning Dove.  Don’t let this beautiful little bird fool you, they are quite feisty!  I found this guy perched on a road sign next to 127 just outside of St. Louis.
