I’m leaving on a jet plane

Good evening!  Earlier this week I noticed several larger birds in one of my trees in my backyard.  I wasn’t sure what kind of bird it was so I snapped a couple of pictures and zoomed in to discover there were Mourning Doves.  The seven pictured below sat in the same spot for several hours and I was lucky enough to capture a pop of color in one of the pictures.

You can tell that we’re about to get a snowstorm, my deer that I’ve named Gimpy, and one of her fawns stopped by to snack rather early this evening.  I’ve gotten rather fond of Gimpy and discovered that her leg is broken below her “knee” and her hoof is deformed because of her injury.  I’m surprised that she’s managed to stay alive and hasn’t come prey to a coyote.  This is my second winter having her visit my feeders.

Bright and early tomorrow morning Mr. Bird Nerd and I fly out to Tampa.  I hope to go on several birding adventures while visiting family and enjoying the sunshine and warm temperatures.
