As I predicted with my last post, the Orioles arrived on Friday and the hummingbirds on Saturday. It’s so nice to have my summer residents back!
Last evening I had a new visitor to the feeders. I think my neighbor must think I’m nuts because little did I know, she was in her backyard when I came outside and saw the new bird cleaning up sunflower seeds on the ground, I began yelling for Mike to stay in the garage and don’t come out. I had to run inside and grab my camera; he didn’t hear a word I said and proceeded to bring the ladder up to the deck so we could put the pergola pots in place. Luckily for me, this male Eastern Towhee was not concerned that either of us were in the backyard only 20 feet from where it was eating, stayed and let me take his picture.
I had posted sometime in the late winter that I was gathering Rex’s hair to put in a suet cage to use for nesting material for the birds. Much to my delight, I caught a Tufted Titmouse grabbing a beak full of fur this evening. I know they are using it because I had to fill the cage a couple of weeks ago. 🙂 It’s not the greatest picture but you can see it clinging to the bottom of the cage just above the peanut feeder.
