One of the last things I do each morning before heading to work is let the little dog out to go potty one last time. Upon opening our slider I noticed an opossum eating the birdseed that had fallen to the ground and that’s when I saw the baby! I quickly got Lexi back inside so she didn’t scare it off and ran for the camera. I was fortunate to have her continue to eat and got relatively close to get these shots before she decided to walk off with the baby clinging to her back.
I used to not be a fan of opossum’s but I’ve learned more about them and discovered that they are beneficial to have around. Opossum’s aren’t susceptible to disease because they have a lower body temperature than most. They eat ticks, so that’s a huge bonus with the prediction that we’re going to have an abundance of ticks this summer, and they are a relatively clean animal despite their appearance. They’re so homely that they’re cute!
